Keynote Speaker

Arun Muthu

Director, USAC Technology Deployment, 3M Canada

Arun is the Director of USAC Technology Deployment with 3M Canada.  His 25-plus years in leadership roles have interfaced with a variety of businesses including; retail, health care, electronics, electrical, aerospace and petrochemical. His extensive experience reaches across a broad spectrum of areas: manufacturing, supply chain, business operations, logistics, technology and LSS. Arun has partnered with business groups in driving profitable growth through portfolio optimization and cost out projects, and holds COGS responsibilities for Canada. He has facilitated in turning around non-profitable businesses, improving operational excellence and exceeding OP plans.  Arun created a new vision for LSS and triggered the CI culture beyond operations to lab, customer service and marketing organizations, facilitated the integration of 2 acquisitions, improved distribution centre operations, making it the fastest order fulfillment DC across 3M with record productivity improvements. In his current role, working as Technology Director for USAC operations, Arun is responsible for technology advancement of 3M operations that account for over 45% of global 3M Sales, whereby he develops and deploys technologies across 80 manufacturing facilities & distribution centres.  He works with global customer value streams to understand gaps, and develops, and deploys technology solutions that drive profitable growth and operational efficiencies. Additionally, his expertise advances digital operations, analytics and develops skill sets for Industry 4.0. Arun holds a MBA from McGill University and Bachelors in Chemical Engineering, and is a Certified MBB.

Calum Cawley

Product Engineering Manager – Autonomous Vehicle Systems, MacLean Engineering

Calum is the Product Engineering Manager for the Autonomous Vehicle Systems group at MacLean Engineering. He holds a B.Eng (Honours) in Mechatronics from IT Sligo, Ireland and has spent 10 years working on autonomous vehicle development. His experience spans multiple sectors including automotive, defence and heavy off-highway vehicles, having worked in roles from software development up to commercial and technical leadership. In his current role, Calum leads a focused engineering team developing automated and autonomous features on MacLean’s range of underground mining machinery.

Dr. Nicole De Long

Senior Director, Business and Client Development, Vineland Research and Innovation Centre

Nicole is the Director of Business and Client Development at Vineland Research and Innovation Centre where she is supporting the innovation services to improve the economic viability, sustainability and competitiveness of horticulture in Canada. Working in public facing roles, Nicole’s career has focused on driving innovation by building strategic partnerships with diverse stakeholders. Nicole holds a PhD. in Medical Sciences from McMaster University.

Nicolas Durand

Vice President and General Manager, ABB Robotics Canada

Nicolas joined ABB in 2017 where he held the role of National Sales and Industry segment Manager for the Motion Business Area in Canada. Prior to joining ABB, Nicolas worked extensively in automation and robotics with Axium Solutions and most recently with Symbotic Canada (formerly Axium) where he contributed to the company’s growth in several industry segments including warehouse automation and the logistics industry in general.

Dave Ellis

President, FIRST Robotics Canada

Dave Ellis is a long-time educator in Ontario, having started teaching in 1998. He was introduced to FIRST Robotics in 2005 and started mentoring robotics teams at his school. He quickly saw the immense value to the students in his inner-city school and so he started growing teams in other schools in Toronto and surrounding areas. He was appointed as Director of FIRST LEGO League in 2008, Director of FIRST Tech Challenge in 2019, Vice President of Programs in 2020, and he has just completed his first year as President of FIRST Robotics Canada. Dave has a passion for engaging kids and adults alike and empowering them to be the change-makers our world needs in both values and vision. His dream is of a world in which all kids have an opportunity to be involved with a FIRST team and experience the life-changing moments that follow.
